Wooden Tensegrity Floating Table DIY Kit

Two wooden platforms, a few taut strings, and a structure that seems to float in mid-air. This build-it-yourself kit shows, hands-on, how tension and balance hold a whole structure together.

Why you'll love it

• Demonstrates a real physics and engineering principle: a structure held up by string tension
• The assembly process encourages problem-solving and critical thinking
• Made of natural-finish wood, it looks great on display on a shelf or desk
• Suited to teens and adults who enjoy science and do-it-yourself projects
• A gift idea for science lovers and a good project for winter evenings at home
• Very lightweight, about 43 g

How to use it

Take out the wooden parts and assemble the base platform and the top platform with their feet. Attach the curved arm to each platform and hook the two arms into each other. Tie the strings between the corners of both platforms and tighten them gradually until the structure stands steady and appears to float. Work patiently and adjust the string tension gently.
