Age-Appropriate Toys: A Short Toy Safety Guide for Parents

"Suitable for ages 3+" sounds like a suggestion based on interest, but in most cases it's actually a safety guideline. Here's what to know before you buy a toy.
What does the recommended age mean?
The age is set by the toy's features: the size of the parts, the materials, the difficulty and how it's used. A toy with small parts is marked 3+ even if it looks "babyish", because young children put things in their mouths.
5 simple rules
- Small parts: under 3, no small parts at all. Even when an older sibling plays with them in the room.
- Batteries: the battery cover should close with a screw. Button batteries are especially dangerous, so keep them away from children.
- Cords and straps: long cords stay away from babies and cribs.
- Water and outdoor play: always under close adult supervision.
- Regular checks: a toy that is broken or cracked goes out of use.
What we do at MAGIKA
Every toy in our store shows a recommended age and, where needed, clear warnings on the product page. We don't sell toys with small loose magnets, water beads that swell or easy-to-remove button batteries. Full details on our Safety & Ages page.
