Birthday Party Favors and Goody Bag Ideas for Kids

A preschool or class birthday is coming, and you need party favors for every child. Instead of a bag full of things that get thrown away after a day, you can make a small bag kids are truly happy with. Here's how.

How many, and for how much?

Make a bag for every child in the class or preschool, plus 2–3 spare bags for siblings and last-minute guests. The most economical way is packs that share out: one pack of tattoos, stickers or mini flutes covers all the kids, and combining 2–3 such packs makes a full, varied bag.

Party favor ideas by age

• Ages 3–5 (preschool): glitter tattoos, puffy stickers, mini flutes, bubbles and rainbow springs. Note: don't give small items, like bouncy balls, to children under 3.
• Ages 6–8: mini squishies, finger spinning tops, fidgets, glow bracelets and mini speed cubes.
• Ages 9+: magic tricks, small brain teasers and mini 3D puzzles.

Prizes for party games

Party competitions work best when everyone gets something. Gold medals for all the players and holographic reward stickers keep the mood happy, and a birthday crown shows who's celebrating today.

5 tips for a great goody bag

• The same contents in every bag, so there are no comparisons or arguments.
• One "special" item plus 2–3 small ones beats lots of tiny things.
• Choose something to play with over more sweets.
• Check each item's recommended age, especially for preschool.
• Order early so everything arrives in time for the party.
